Liner Notes:
Recollections by Mark Harvey: The music on this recording comes from a live performance at the Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. Our group gave regular monthly concerts in that space for nearly three years, from 1969 to 1972. We enjoyed large and enthusiastic audiences for our concert offerings and that strong support motivated the initial release of this album, a small budget, small press sort of operation which we are delighted to know will have a new lease on life, not to mention far wider distribution than we could have ever hoped for back in the day.
The Art Ensemble of Chicago, late Coltrane, Sun Ra, and many other wonderful exploratory artists of that period informed our aesthetics. Our own collective improvisational approach worked from minimal conceptual and/or orchestrational frameworks that gave an identity to each specific piece, yet left enormous space for fresh development and essentially the creation of a new composition in each performance. As many improvisers did in that period, we performed in almost total darkness, save for illumination from one or two candles. Sets went as long as the music demanded, and the same for individual selections. What you hear on this re-release is what was performed as part of one particular concert, a document of an experience we called "aural theatre."

This release has been digitally re-mastered but please be aware that it still contains low levels of surface noise. Unfortunately, this is due to the very low recording volume of segments of the live performance and the mastering source for the re-release.
Part of the Massachusetts Underground Jazz series.
